THE WAGE GAP. TAKE ACTION.

WHY TAKE ACTION?

The gender pay gap is a very real and relevant issue in our society that is sometimes pushes to the side due to our own biases. A big reason the gender pay gap exists is because of the outdated stereotypes of "women's work" in the workforce. Jobs like teaching, being a secretary, nursing, cashiering, and working in retail are all relatively lower paying then male-dominated careers such as in finance, engineering, web development and science. To elimate these stereotypes, we ask you to encourage women interested in male-dominated careers. Because of these lower paying "women's work" jobs, many employed women are living off a minimum wage hourly salary. To get more women who are caretakers off of the poverty line, we ask you to sign a petition to raise the minimum wage to $15. Lastly, we ask you to be educated on salary laws, and make sure you are fairly negotiating your own salary. For this we have a workshop on salary negotitating linked, as well as a petition to update the Paycheck Fairness Act, the goal being to eliminate pay discrimination.
